PHILIPPA WADE

My name is Philippa Wade, I am a British Wheel of Yoga qualified teacher. I teach Hatha Yoga in Chester and the surrounding area.

I have been practising yoga for 30+ years and teaching professionally since 2011.

I’m motivated to inspire people to practice yoga regardless of age, ability and physical condition, promote the benefits of yoga, and make it accessible to everyone.

My Training and Experience

I completed my 500 hour teaching diploma with BWY in 2012. This was a comprehensive period of study covering asana, anatomy, basic and advanced (pranayama) breathing practices, relaxation, meditation, history and philosophy of yoga, lesson planning, class management and teaching practice.

I have taught several BWY Foundation Courses and the 500 hour Teacher Training Diploma course, I have 4 years experience of teaching yoga in male and female prisons and teaching retreats in the UK and Europe. I run regular 3 hour workshops in Chester.

I teach an alignment based practice and adapt my teaching to incorporate mixed abilities within the same group so everyone can take part whatever their level, if you are a beginner you will feel the benefits quickly and if you are more experienced, you will be stretched and challenged.

The British Wheel of Yoga

The British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) is the largest yoga membership organisation in the country, connecting 3,000 qualified teachers who are committed to promoting a greater understanding of yoga and its safe practice through experience, education, discussion, study and training.

My Background

I practised yoga during my corporate career in legal services for 12 years and for a further 15 years in project management in the banking industry. Yoga provided a means of coping with a busy, demanding job that involved UK wide travel and long hours. In 2012 I transitioned from the world of corporate finance to teach yoga full time and haven’t looked back since!

My Teaching Style

My teaching encompasses a mix of hatha and vinyasa inspired practice and aims to develop strength, flexibility and stamina. I place an emphasis on physical alignment during posture work to ensure students work safely, providing a firm foundation from which to practice.

During yoga practice, I explain what we are doing and why, emphasising the benefits that yoga brings to both your body and mind so that you can fully understand and experience everything yoga has to offer. My classes place emphasis on developing awareness of your breathing and how to use your breath to deepen practice.

I adapt my teaching to provide options so that if you are a beginner you will feel the benefits quickly and if you are more experienced, you will be stretched and challenged. Yoga provides an outlet for anyone dealing with a hectic and busy life schedule.
